Plot styles do not appear?

Problem:

My normal plot styles - also know as CTB plot styles - do not show in the plot dialog box. This is commonly found when I recieve outside dwgs.

I cannot select my pen assignments like other drawings, bcos its extension showing as .stb
where my other drawing extension was .ctb, how can i get back my pen assignments?
